I had heard about this ten years ago in Guatemala and Mexico where Maya farmers were being pressured. What a pathetic world we live in when industrial giants need to squeeze cash out of subsistence farmers in “third world” countries

This is sickening. Another example of big business killing off the little guys - this time literally.

This clearly shows the failure of the UPA government. When they have thousands of relief funds, why don't they reach the person in need?

What will make our leaders awake?

Wake up! India is dying...you fools!

Sucide is a mental state of an individual, when a person cant bear hardship,so it is not farmers but people in other profession commit suicide, However our Neta and Ministers are responsible that they dont live among the AAM ADMI so that they may know the plight of AAM AADMI , before he/ she end the life.

”Sucide is a mental state of an individual, when a person cant bear hardship,so it is not farmers but people in other profession commit suicide,..”

That’s an out of context explanation. What has that to do with suicides of farmers?Suicide is also the absence of better and dignified means of survival.Since you have left the farmers in pool of pain and frustration, these poor chaps have no other route but suicide to rise above the problems encircling them.

Please don’t post insulting comments that simply add salt to the injury of the farmers !!

Why doesn't India deal with this drought problem, when it knows this is every year's problem? How many more farmers does it want to kill?

That is why we keep saying. Get educated and dont waste your childhood when getting literate is more important. If you have completed your studies, you can find lots of sources to find some kind of work and that would help serve your family members with basic necessities.

Dont waste life in committing suicide, when GOD has sent you on to this earth, eventhough, you are struggling, you never loose heart. Today farmers are not educated enough to find alternate source of income and suffer from these circumstances.

We dont just want to eradicate literacy ratio but see that every individual gets an equal opportunity to get to atleast graduate level.

Indian government is requested to allow free education for these poor villagers. Why can’t we provide when you are already giving free educational facilities to girls.

Villagers literacy will only add to our GDP ratio. Let them get irrigation, botanical or agricultural degrees.

Mr. Arvind K Pandey.
I come from farmers family , when our land was acquired by the Govt of U P in 1962 ,We were left on the Road with Crops in the frield, Compansation was meager which we got after paying bribe, that too was paid in instalment, We were not prepared , without money, before that we faced draught problems with out Electric Tube wells. but none committed suicide, as people were hard working, and mentally sound.

@Capt.

So U think that farmers who have committed suicide were not ”hard working ” and not ” mentally sound”.

...BTW, I too belong to family of farmers...I can better feel their pains, their frustrations..It’s really unspeakable...

Desperation, high degree anxiety ”unknown fear griping the mind”. All these are the factors daunting scary to the farmers. The poor farmers become victims of unauthorized usurer. The governments helps do not reach the farmers. The middle men be it politicians,or bureaucracy they all swindlers of the money. These sorts of suicides not new. It has happening in every government. In each government only a handful of leaders are clean and transparent. The disgrace and shame only remains at the end.
